Introduction

Students from 24 countries join 2016 Antai Global Summer Program

Eighty international students joined 2016 Antai Global Summer Program which was successfully opened on Xuhui campus on July 4th. The students come from 24 different countries and regions including Turky, Switzerland, Spain, Australia, Italy, Morocco, Britain, France, Germany, South Korea, Canada, Czech Republic, Slovakia, United States, Singapore, India, Malaysia and China. Many came from top universities such as Oxford, University of Leeds, International University in Geneva, University of Economics in Prague, University of Sydney, University of Melbourne, University of New South Wales, KAIST from South Korea and Zurich University of Applied Sciences. In the Master track, more than 50% of the participants are foreign MBA students, with an average age of 29. During the opening ceremony, Professor Wan Guohua, Associate Dean of Antai College of Economics and Management (ACEM), welcomed the arrival of the students and delivered warm remarks. After that, the International Cooperation and Exchange Office of ACEM introduced the courses and provided useful information regarding life in Shanghai. During the networking session, students introduced themselves and socialized with each other. Later in the afternoon, the group embarked on a tour to Shanghai landmarks including Lujiazui, SWFC and the Hong Kong Plaza, having a taste of the local business culture and an exciting start for the fun and rewarding experience promised for the following weeks. After studying for three weeks in the program, students will receive three academic credits issued by Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Featuring 'Learning Business and Culture in China', the Antai Global Summer Program focuses on Chinese economics and management courses, company visits, Chinese language and history workshops, and Chinese culture. This summer, students will take part in workshops and company visits to Shanghai Circuit, GE, BBDO, Coca-cola, IBM and 3M. Apart from academic and Chinese language courses, cultural activities such as pottery-making, tea making, cooking and calligraphy will also help them experience the charm of China. Antai Global Summer Program is the first English-taught summer program organized by ACEM for international students. It helps the college to attract a diverse student body, raise international visibility and promote internationalization.

1.Accommodation

During the program period, students are housed in a three-star residence hotel on Xuhui campus, which is within 15-minute-walking distance from Antai college. Two students of the same gender will share one standard room. The room is equipped with TV, air-conditioning, free Internet access, shower booth, hair dryer etc.

2.Campus

Xuhui campus is one of the five beautiful campuses of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. It is where the university was established in 1896 as Nan Yang Public School, bearing witness of its historical development over the past 115 years. Boasting diverse architectural styles of its buildings, Xuhui campus is listed as “Heritage Architecture” by the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government. These symbolic buildings include the library, the stadium, faculty center, the museum of university history, etc., all of which are built to facilitate and enrich students’ study and life on campus. Located on Huashan Road, Xuhui campus is in walking distance from Xujiahui Central Business District, which is one of the most dynamic business areas in Shanghai. The various shopping centers, dining places, theatres, and other facilities are all within easy reach to provide students with a convenient life.

3.Shanghai

Shanghai is the heart of China’s economic development and a major business center in the world. It is headquartered by a great number of world’s top corporations and has attracted many foreign-invested financial institutions, all-embracing the vibrant and rigorous business environment of this cosmopolitan city. Shanghai is also a popular tourist destination renowned for its rich collection of architecturally distinctive buildings and historical landmarks such as The Bund. The extensive and growing skyline of Lujiazui area in Pudong district is described as the showpiece of the booming economy of the city and the country. Other attractions of the city include the abundant cultural places and events and the different kinds of local delicacies.
