Introduction
Carroll’s small class sizes, field placements, and ongoing advisory support will make your teaching career get top marks.
The Teacher Education A.A. program provides the first two years of study for students who plan to enter secondary education (7th through 12th grades) or a pre-K through 12th-grade content areas like health, art, or physical education. Students can enjoy a seamless transfer into education programs at selected Maryland baccalaureate institutions with careful academic advising.
This is our most flexible teaching degree, allowing students to pursue the subjects that most interest them. Secondary Education majors can explore different content areas or customize their program to focus on teaching in critical need areas such as science, math, special education, foreign languages, and technical education. Students may also major in physical education, music, health, and art.
The purpose of the Associate of Arts degree program in Teacher Education is to prepare students to transfer to secondary and special content programs not covered by the A.A.T. including middle school (4th-8th grade), secondary social studies (7th-12th grade), and physical education, music, and art (Pre-K-12th grade). Through student-centred instruction, advising, service-learning opportunities, and classroom field placements, graduates are well prepared to enter a baccalaureate program. Students leave the program with a wealth of experience and understanding of professionalism and the rewards and challenges of teaching in a diverse society.
