The cost of summer courses varies from school to school. Courses at more elite colleges and universities cost considerably more than those at smaller or state schools. The cost is also dependent on the number of courses a student enrolls in.
After completing a college degree, a student may wish to pursue a graduate degree. The first level of such study is called a master. Students can earn this title after completing approximately two years of study when taking a full load of credits.

(Open to students at all proficiency levels)
This action-oriented course makes the most of the short-term study abroad environment by focusing on the situations that students encounter while in Japan. Depending on the level of proficiency, students will either learn basic grammatical structures and vocabulary or reinforce and fully utilize previously studied grammar while expanding vocabulary to accomplish more challenging communicative goals. Interaction with Japanese students is emphasized. In this course, students will learn to use the language to achieve actual communicative goals in Japanese. Examples of the situations that call for the use of various linguistic forms are introducing oneself (e.g., at an international party, to a Japanese family), exchanging useful information on the neighborhood and surrounding towns, getting around & using public transportation, solving communication-related problems, describing cultural artifacts & asking questions, talking about events, inviting someone to outings, talking about customs, manners, cultural differences, one’s hometown, etc. with a Japanese family, and so on.Students with differing degrees of proficiency in Japanese will work toward the achievement of the goals set according to their level, keeping “can-do statements” in mind. Volunteer students whose native language is Japanese are brought in to work with summer program participants for both language support and authentic interaction in Japanese. Students are encouraged to make the most of various resources available on campuses such as a JSL resource center and the Writing Support Center. Final grades will be given based on quizzes, class participation, and homework/assignments. Students’ self-evaluation of the degree to which they...

For much of the 19th and 20th century, Britain was the world’s superpower, and its imperial connections not only left deep traces in America, Africa and Asia but also in Britain itself. Thus to understand modern British history it is necessary to see it in a global perspective: not only were British politics and economics influenced by imperial considerations but also most of its wars were global conflicts. Furthermore, British culture – food, fashion and architecture – was, and still is, shaped by its imperial legacy. By combining political, social and military history, this module introduces you to the key developments, ideas, events and people that shaped modern British history.
