Introduction
One Year/ Semester Course
The Jewelry department focus on either the production techniques or design skills that are necessary to succeed as a designer/goldsmith.
- Through our programs and customized instructions - according to each participant’s level and goal - we encourage students to explore and develop their own expressive style, elaborating self-directed projects and research.
- Projects encompass conventional formats, such as brooches, rings and earrings, as well as experimental designs, both wearable and non-wearable.
- Students will also be introduced to business practice, necessary to start up their new professional career.
In the Jewelry Making course, students will discover and learn how to translate their inner creativity and conceptual style into three-dimensional forms to create unique objects. They will master a variety of techniques, including: sawing, filing, soldering, casting, forging and stone setting. Moreover, we offer you the unique chance to learn the traditional art of “Incisione” (Florentine-style engraving). The study will not be limited to traditional materials, but can also incorporate items such as beads, plastics, glass and found objects.
In the Jewelry Design course students will be introduced to graphical representation techniques of jewels and gemstones, learning effectively how to merge aesthetics with functionality. First, students will be introduced to hand-sketching techniques, and then develop their personal projects through the use of professional software, exploring their own aesthetic sense and originality. The curriculum addresses many topics, including: the study of the light refraction, color theory, technical drawing, perspective drawing, gemology, etc.
