Whether you have studied business before, have relevant professional work experience without studying, or have studied an un-related area, USQ’s Graduate Certificate of Business can expand your career prospects with a postgraduate qualification.

You can choose to study:

  • A Business Administration specialisation where you will choose four core business courses from the Master of Business Administration. If you wish to go on and study the Master of Business Administration you should choose this specialisation.
  • A General specialisation where you are able to select any four postgraduate Business and Commerce courses, or from another study area with University approval, to personalise your degree to your requirements.
  • A Named specialisation where you can choose to specialise in one area, including:

    If you wish to go on and study the Master of Business and Innovation, Master of Project Management, Master of Information Systems or Master of Professional Accounting you should choose a Named specialisation.

The Graduate Certificate of Business is designed to help you advance in your workplace with a postgraduate qualification or be the first step on the road to a master’s degree.

Further study

The Graduate Certificate of Business can be a stepping stone if you want to go onto study degrees such as our Master of Business Administration, Master of Business and Innovation, Master of Project Management, Master of Information Systems and Master of Professional Accounting.

Alternate entry options

Alternate entry means you don’t necessarily have to have completed an undergraduate bachelor degree. You may be able to enter the Graduate Certificate of Business based on relevant professional work experience.

Professional accreditation

USQ is registered with the Project Management Institute (PMI) as a Global Registered Education Provider (R.E.P.). A study of project management at USQ earns professional development units towards certification with PMI including towards the Project Management Professional (PMP).

PMI and PMP are registered marks of the Project Management Institute.

Entry Requirements

  • Approved undergraduate degree or equivalent

or

  • Other qualifications or a minimum of five years’ full-time relevant professional work experience as deemed sufficient within program accreditation requirements.

Supporting evidence for admission through work experience only

Evidence of work experience is required to demonstrate equivalence to a Bachelor Degree at AQF level 7 through:

  • A curriculum vitae or professional LinkedIn profile which provides details of:
    • Organisation name
    • Position title
    • Start and end dates of employment for each position
    • Type of employment (full-time, part-time or casual)
    • Key duties, responsibilities and achievements for which you must provide evidence to demonstrate how you meet knowledge, skills and application of skills (PDF 38KB) equivalent to a Bachelor Degree and AQF level 7 as follows:
  • Names, position titles and contact details of referees (employers or supervisors) who will be able to verify the nature of your work for the period of 5 years. Referees may be contacted by USQ and should be able to provide details on, but not limited to: communication skills, self-directed work and learning, managing people or client accounts, managerial responsibilities for any major projects and/or financial delegation accountabilities.

English Language Requirements

All students are required to satisfy the applicable English language requirements. This program requires a minimum of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.

If you do not meet the English language requirements, you may apply to study a University-approved English language program.

A number of other pathways are also available if you haven't been able to study previously or don't meet the requirements for entry into your program of interest.
