Introduction
This intensive non-credit program is designed for people who wish to improve their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. Small groups ensure that each learner receives individualized attention. Instruction focuses on language acquisition. Students follow textbooks from the “North Star” series, depending on their level. There is regular testing of the material, and students are expected to complete homework assignments, write book reports, and prepare for weekly oral presentations.
There are 7 levels: Beginner, Low-Intermediate, Intermediate I, Intermediate II high-intermediate I, high-intermediate II, and Advanced.
Each level takes on average 2-3 sessions to complete. Each session lasts 5 weeks.

Language Workshops and Conversation Partners
Students have the option of participating in the Conversation Partner Program before or after class for 1 hour per day. This gives students an extra 5 hours to practice their English outside of class. The Conversation Partners are Vanier students from many different academic programs and cultural backgrounds. The Conversation Partners are fluent in English and very friendly!
Students can take part in Language workshops for an extra hour each week to practice more language elements in depth. Workshops on pronunciation, idioms, vocabulary, writing blogs, understanding cultural differences, communicating informal vs. informal context are some of many other interesting topics!
