Introduction
The purpose of this program is to prepare students for employment in the drafting industry.
This program offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers in the Architecture and Construction career cluster; provides technical skill proficiency, and includes competency-based applied learning that contributes to the academic knowledge, higher-order reasoning and problem-solving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills, and occupation-specific skills, and knowledge of all aspects of the Architecture and Construction career cluster.
The content includes but is not limited to freehand sketching, drafting by hand, and computer and 3D modelling.
Students in this program learn how to create drawings and computer simulations to support mechanical and industrial engineers. In addition to drafting techniques, students study manufacturing processes and materials, the science of metal, and technical communication. This program stresses the understanding of all aspects of the drafting industry. It includes training in planning, management, finance, technical and production skills, underlying principles of technology, labour issues, community issues, health, safety, and environmental issues.
Program graduates are employed in the following fields: Architectural Drafters, Civil Drafters, Mechanical Drafters, Drafters.
